Salary:

Hourly: $15.53 / $18.09

Semi-Monthly: $1,346.17 / $1,567.67

Annual: $32, 308.08 / $37,624.08

Qualifications:

  • PPO I - ABachelor'sdegree from an accredited college or university
  • PPO II - One or more years of experience as a Probation and Parole Officer I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND One or more years of professional experience in probation and parole or corrections casework

NOTE: PPO I & II both require:

  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license
  • Successful completion of safety training including defensive tactics and the ability to re-qualify annually

(24 earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or related area may substitute for the required experience)

(Work experience as a Probation and Parole Assistant or Corrections Classification Assistant with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System, or work experience in substance abuse counseling or juvenile or social case management may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years of the required education)

Examples of Work

A position currently exists for POI/POII in the District #21 Probation and Parole Office in Branson, MO. This position is responsible for the supervision and case management of offenders who are on community supervision. Duties will include conducting risk and need assessments of offenders, developing supervision plans, referring offenders to resources, conducting investigations, maintaining ongoing and accurate records of supervision activities, completing written reports, maintaining data and information in the department's computer systems, conducting field work and home visits, and attending court hearings as needed. The management team works closely with officers and enjoy teamwork and community collaboration.

These positions may have additional duties assigned. These additional duties may include, but will not be limited to, the supervision of a specialized caseload, committee and/or liaison work, and facilitation of offender groups

  • Investigates offender's home/work/social environments for circuit courts/Board of Probation and Parole; collects/verifies/evaluates data; incorporates into reports and records; assesses needs/risk levels to determine appropriate supervision strategies to ensure effective offender management/public safety; and submits reports thereof to designated legal authorities
  • Contacts offenders in their homes, places of employment or confinement and counsels them regarding personal/adjustment problems; attends court to receive court assignments/make reports
  • Assists in vocational/educational/social adjustment planning for assigned offenders; cooperates with public /private agencies and law enforcement agencies; investigates offender violations; takes appropriate action including issuance of a warrants
  • Prepares statistical reports of activities; administers/observes breathalyzer/urinalysis testing; assists in special investigations/research projects/other activities; serves on committees/task forces within the Department and community; performs other related work as assigned; as employee becomes more experienced/demonstrates proficiency, levels of supervision become more general

Needed Skills:

  • Introductory/intermediate knowledge of: methods to obtain reliable social/personal information and develop case histories; general methods of social casework/job placement; human behavior/attitudes/ motivation/ability to apply to casework and rehabilitation; causes of crime; issues of substance abuse/ mental illness
  • Ability to: learn to conduct interviews with hostile or reluctant individuals; implement plans of supervision; initiate/maintain contact with victims of crime/Parole Board/employers/social agencies/courts/general public; exercise authority in an appropriate/productive manner; prepare accurate/complete case records and reports; assess personal safety risks/utilize existing safety policies/procedures; communicate information concisely/clearly/accurately
