Supervisor, Behavior Health Care Manager

The Supervisor of the Behavioral Health Care Manager (BHCM) is responsible for the processes and procedures that drive the BHCM team.  Will work to ensure the collaborative care team, including the member?s medical provider and psychiatric consultant, as well as the larger primary care team or medical team function collaboratively together. The BHCM supervisor is responsible for responding the staff inquires, assisting leadership in training, oversight of processes and day to day activities of the BHCM workflow. The supervisor will also perform duties of BHCM supporting and coordinating the mental and physical health care of members Along with addressing and resolving social determinants of health for members.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Work with the department Manager to develop, monitor and maintain the daily operations in alignment with OCN strategic goals and objectives
  • Assist in development of short-term and long-term (annual) department goals in alignment with organizational strategic goals and objectives
  • Support the department leadership in preparation semi-annual and annual health plan Audits in compliance with state, health plan, and national regulatory and quality standards
  • Keeps current on health plan benefits, compliance or other regulatory changes to support training and operational needs.  and structure and researches unusual requests with health plan
  • Maintains statistical tracking and monitoring of operational metrics for the assigned functions
  • Acts a resource and responds to questions from medical offices, hospitals, and patients when questions relate to department functions
  • Create accurate tools/workflow/process documents for departmental operational services
  • Assists in the development and implementation of job specific policy and procedures
  • Assists with the research for new training materials and resources that might enhance training procedures and provide value to employees
  • On-boards new teammates and coordinates training
  • Communicates with teammates, trainer, and leadership to ensure all training needs are met for onboarding and ongoing development
  • Audits documentation and processes in a regular basis and giving feedback to the leads and managers
  • Manages staffing, leave, absences, and timecards for all direct reports
  • Assure adequate staff coverage to meet business needs, to include consideration and approval of staff PTO
  • Conducts performance development ratings for all direct reports provides coaching with oversite from Manager
  • Assure direct reports meet performance expectations and administer individual job performance counseling as needed
  • Work as a team member with physicians, administration, staff, and other managers within the department and organization
  • Serve as a liaison to other departments
  • Assist with recruitment and hiring for department
  • Communicate, implement, and follow personnel policies and procedures within areas of responsibility
  • Coordinate with management when issues arise regarding personnel policies and procedures and to define staffing and staff development needs
  • Assure adequate staff coverage to meet business needs, to include consideration and approval of staff PTO
  • Support the mental, substance use disorder and physical health care of members on an assigned member caseload. Closely coordinate care with the member?s medical provider and, when appropriate, other mental health providers
  • Screen and assess members for common mental health and substance abuse disorders. Facilitate member engagement and follow-up care
  • Provide member education about common mental health and substance abuse disorders and the available treatment options
  • Systematically track treatment response and monitor members for changes in clinical symptoms and treatment side effects or complications
  • Support psychotropic medication management as prescribed by medical providers, focusing on treatment adherence monitoring, side effects, and effectiveness of treatment
  • Provide brief behavioral interventions using evidence-based techniques such as behavioral activation, problem-solving treatment, motivational interviewing, or other treatments as appropriate
  • Facilitate referrals to evidence-based psychosocial treatments (e.g. problem-solving treatment or behavioral activation) as clinically indicated
  • Facilitate treatment plan changes for members who are not improving as expected in consultation with the medical provider and the psychiatric consultant and who may need more intensive or more specialized mental health care
  • Facilitate referrals for clinically indicated services outside of the organization (e.g., social services such as housing assistance, vocational rehabilitation, mental health specialty care, substance abuse treatment)
  • Keeps current on areas of case management, quality management, utilization management, member education and preventive health guidelines

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of health care delivery systems
  • Demonstrate knowledge of PC applications including MS Office Suite
  • Ability to use written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret data
  • Skill in writing clear, grammatically correct, easy?to-use instructional documentation
  • Ability to identify learning needs, set goals and seek educational opportunities
  • Ability to analyze problems and formulate appropriate plans, solutions and courses of action
  • Knowledge of age specific communication needs with the ability to listen actively and respond to internal and external customers in a timely, competent manner both verbally and nonverbally 
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization and affiliates
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of member and all related entity business matters of the organization and its partners
  • Ability to manage detail and work with accuracy
  • Ability to recognize and act appropriately in situations where member care needs exceed medical certification
  • Skill in working with a team; ability to collaborate on projects with colleagues
  • Skill in working effectively under deadlines and changing priorities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Maters degree in mental health related field
  • Experience: two years board based behavioral health
  • Certification/License: LICSW, LM (LMHC) or LF (LMFT). Care Management certification preferred, mandatory after 2 years of employment
